The Suspense of Choice!

Welcome Planeswalkers of the Multiverse!

So wow! Its a good feeling to be writing again after such a long time away from this wonderful wonderful pass time!
I'd like to preface this post at least with a bit of my own personal background as well as what I kind of hope to achieve with this project!

So to begin; My name is Brendan, but I prefer the screen name Gubbinz (or any iteration thereof)
I am a University student, currently majoring in Mathematics.
I live in New Zealand, and am currently flatting with a great group of people who are (un)fortunately not magic players!

I have a bit of a background in magic, having started playing when I was about ten, back in Mirrodin block. I actually remember cracking open the sunburst intro deck with my brother and I was destined to be in and out for a couple of years only to return in full force when I left home last year.

After my (long) hiatus from magic back in 2011 I met some people in my hall last year who lets say.. shared some interests with me; In that we all thoroughly enjoyed various strategy board games and cute little card games. But I was astounded to find out that none of them had even heard of M:TG, which was honestly quite a surprise to me at the time. So i went through some of the rules and arbitrarily long story short we ended up finding the most friendly, awesome LGS in our city and we began to build a strong foundation in the game.

Previously only really playing kitchen table magic with my brother and a few close friends whilst dabbling in competitive standard, my playgroup ended up foraying deep into the realm of Elder Dragon Highlander.

I began with a Derevi, Empyrial Tactician deck, which was beyond janky, but it was fun, playing it against the other janky decks in my playgroup (Demon tribal ftw!)
But I slowly grew tired of the repetitive, no lines deck that it became and I moved on to Yisan, the wandering bard. That was a strong deck. I will admit there was a distinctly large amount of proxies in the deck (Im a poor student okay, Food>Emrakul) but it was definitely a capable deck that had many powerful lines of play (T2 Worldspine Wurm just seems valuable)
That deck progressed and progressed, until i eventually had to change the commander to reflect how many changes had been made, to Yeva, Nature's herald.
Well that was all well and good, but I was finding it weird me being the only one with one Commander deck.

So being the intelligent individual I am, I built a Captain Sisay deck. It has ended up being a pretty flavourful deck, whilst also being incredibly powerful in the latter stages of the game. I also may or may not have accidentally included a Mindslaver lock too!

But after playing her for a while I again find myself experiencing wanderlust, but i've encountered a problem; who do I choose?
Its important to note that as my playgroup has progressed, we've translated into a stronger and stronger meta, so silly commanders that under perform despite how much fun they are may not make the cut. I do however, still wanna have fun when I play right?
I've considered various commander choices, from Narset, to Niv Mizz through to even *cringe* Sharuum.

After a long slog of only playing Captain Sisay, I have decided to combine my love of bonkers combos, and winning to play Jhoira! If you dont know commander well or havent played against her before, when built well, she is terrifying, but also has the capability to spread alot fo michief and mayhem in multiplayer battles!

So over the next couple weeks, I will be trying to assemble the components needed to amass such a powerful and complex deck design! So I hope that you guys can follow me along the way!

So I suppose i'll leave this incredibly lengthy (and likely rambly) post and catch up with y'all another day!
Stay saucy,
Gubbinz
